Roma: Libero-news Magazine

"80 minutes of wrestling and fighting for freedom, an eye that knows how to subvert the common perspective by showing us a universe of blood and theatrical agility, uncomfortable clothes and strong women. The stuff of envy for Aronofsky and Rourke. "
-Boris Sollazzo, 'Liberation', 22 October 2009

"But to knock out the festival, the irresistible Mamachas del Ring, yet another pearl of the Extra section--a story of sisterhood and struggle. Free in all senses."

Roma: Metronews, "Mamachas del Ring, La 'Chicca' di Roma"

"One of the best films of the Rome Film Festival is Mamachas del Ring, a documentary directed by New Yorker Betty M Park." - Metronews

Rome: Day 1

Made it to the airport just in time to board the plane, and conked out shortly thereafter. When I awoke, I thought we might be in Rome. But actually, we were still on the runway waiting to take off.

Except for that minor delay, things have gone swell. I met some of the festival staff and they are truly, wonderful people...and the venue is amazingly beautiful, just like the city.

If you're around the internets on Monday, 19 Oct @ 10am (Rome time), check out a live feed of "meet American Independent Filmmakers" hosted by the US Embassy Rome.

Ciao!

More blove from an Italian blog, film.35mm.it, about the upcoming Int'l. Rome Film Festival:

"On the slopes of the Bolivian Andes, an indomitable group of local women who organize a women's league of "lucha libre" (the equivalent of U.S. wrestling) are met with suspicion and prejudice throughout the country. Before long, however, they become the darlings of the public and find themselves facing the most difficult battle against the jealousy and greed of those who want to exploit their winning image. The unbridled visual talent of the director Betty M. Park incorporates stop-motion animation with a story of female redemption  in vivid colors, in which the dignity and tradition, the document and the caricature, join forces against all abuses."
